Senior Site Engineer

Job Description: 

We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for supervising and coordinating electrical installation activities across renewable energy and infrastructure projects onsite. The role supports the safe and efficient delivery of LV/MV systems including cabling, switchgear, transformers, inverter systems, and grid infrastructure. Working closely with subcontractors, Site Engineers, QA/QC, and commissioning teams, the SEE ensures works are completed in line with project specifications, programme requirements, and HSE standards. The role includes supporting testing, inspections, commissioning, progress monitoring, and technical coordination with civil and mechanical teams to ensure successful project delivery.

 

Your role will encompass
 
 
  • Supervise electrical subcontractors during installation of LV/MV cables, switchgear, transformers, inverter stations, panels, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate daily electrical activities with civil, mechanical, and commissioning teams to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Monitor electrical installation progress and support work sequencing in line with construction priorities.
  • Support Site Management in resolving technical and operational issues onsite.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, cable schedules, SLDs, layouts, specifications, ITPs, and RAMS before works commence.
  • Verify cable routing, segregation, terminations, earthing, and bonding in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Support inspections and ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and installation requirements.
  • Raise technical queries and support resolution of design or installation conflicts.
  • Support pre-commissioning activities including insulation resistance testing, continuity checks, and electrical inspections.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams during energisation and testing activities.
  • Ensure punch list items, quality records, and outstanding electrical works are tracked and closed efficiently.
  • Support final handover documentation and as-built record collection.

Subcontractor & Progress Monitoring

  • Monitor subcontractor manpower, productivity, progress, and quality performance.
  • Identify delays, installation risks, or resource shortages and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Support implementation of mitigation actions to maintain project programme.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with technical standards, project procedures, and site rules.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE procedures, PPE requirements, RAMS, and safe systems of work.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, site safety walks, and coordination meetings.
  • Ensure electrical works are carried out in accordance with approved permits and safety procedures.
  • Actively support safe energisation and isolation practices onsite.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical progress, inspections, testing, and site issues.
  • Provide clear updates to Site Management regarding progress, risks, delays, and technical concerns.
  • Support compilation of daily and weekly site reports.
  • Ensure documentation is properly maintained and aligned with project requirements.
  • Support development and mentoring of junior engineers and site personnel where required.
  • Promote best practices and lessons learned across site activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining a professional, organised, and collaborative site environment.

 

 
What you bring to the role: 
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 3–7 years’ experience in electrical construction, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience supervising electrical installation activities onsite.
  • Experience within utility-scale solar PV, BESS, substations, grid infrastructure, or EPC environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with LV/MV systems including cabling, switchgear, transformers, inverter systems, and earthing.
  • Understanding of commissioning activities, QA/QC procedures, and electrical testing processes.
  • Knowledge of BS7671, G99/G100 standards, and UK construction practices preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, SLDs, cable schedules, and technical specifications.
  • Good understanding of electrical installation practices and testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC inspection processes and commissioning support activities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical interfaces with civil and mechanical disciplines.
