We are currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (Fixed Term Contract – Maternity Cover) to join our Legal Team in Canada, supporting the continued growth of Metlen’s renewable energy activities across North America.
In this role, you will provide high-quality, commercially focused legal support across the lifecycle of renewable energy projects. Working closely with internal stakeholders across Development, EPC, Finance, Asset Management, and Operations, you will help ensure that legal frameworks effectively support project delivery, risk management, and business objectives.
Your role will encompass:

Project & Commercial Contracting:
Provide legal support in the drafting, review, and negotiation of key project and commercial agreements, including EPC and O&M contracts, procurement agreements, subcontracts, NDAs, and other transaction documents.

Project Development Support:
Advise internal teams during project development and execution phases, ensuring legal risks are identified and managed effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Finance & Transactions:
Support legal aspects of project financing activities, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions, assisting with documentation review, due diligence, and coordination with external counsel.

Governance, Risk & Compliance:
Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements while supporting the implementation of legal precedents, governance frameworks, and internal policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with teams across Development, EPC, Finance, and Operations, providing practical legal advice and supporting negotiations with contractors, partners, and other external stakeholders.
What you bring to the role:

Legal Qualification & Experience:
Qualified lawyer with a valid practicing certificate and 5+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally combining private practice and in-house experience.

Technical Legal Expertise:
Experience in commercial contracts, EPC or construction-related agreements, and project documentation, preferably within infrastructure, energy, or renewable energy sectors.

Commercial Awareness:
Ability to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and international environments.
