We are currently seeking a Senior HSE Advisor to join our Grid & Digital Solutions department within the Thermal Power & HVDC Division of Metlen Energy & Metals, based at our Murton, County Durham project site.
Your role will encompass:
- Leading the implementation and monitoring of HSE requirements in line with CDM 2015, UK legislation, and project-specific safety management systems
- Acting as a senior HSE focal point on site, providing guidance and support to project teams and subcontractors
- Report to the site H&S Manager and the Project H&S Manager.
- Supporting and, where required, deputising for the HSE Site Manager across site operations
- Monitoring all construction activities to ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied and maintained
- Conducting HSE audits and inspections, identifying gaps and ensuring timely close-out of non-conformities
- Leading incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
- Providing expert HSE advice to EPC teams to support risk mitigation and compliance
- Reviewing and contributing to Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Delivering inductions, Toolbox Talks, and HSE training sessions across site teams
- Promoting a positive safety culture through active engagement and continuous improvement initiatives
- Participating in contractor coordination meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions
- Preparing and maintaining HSE reports, statistics, and project documentation as required
What you bring to the role:
- Proven experience as an HSE professional in construction, EPC, or industrial environments (typically 5+ years for senior level)
- Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and UK HSE legislation
- Experience in large-scale energy, infrastructure, or renewables projects (solar/BESS experience considered an advantage)
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
- SMSTS certification
- First Aid at Work certification
- Experience in conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 auditing exposure (desirable)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to influence site teams
- Full UK driving licence and ability to work in a site-based environment
