Job Description: 

Senior Engery Originator 

 

The Senior Originator is responsible for leading the origination, structuring, negotiation and execution of complex Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and BESS Tolling Agreements across the Australian power market. The role combines commercial leadership, market expertise and transaction execution, supporting both renewable generation and energy storage (BESS) assets.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead origination and execution of Corporate and Utility PPAs across Australia 

  • Originate, structure and negotiate BESS Flexible Purchase Agreements, optimization contracts and route-to-market strategies 

  • Take full ownership of commercial negotiations from early engagement (NDA, MoU, HoT) through to contract execution 

  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of PPA and BESS opportunities aligned with company growth strategy 

  • Build and maintain senior relationships with corporates, utilities, retailers, traders, aggregators and BESS optimizers 

  • Work closely with Development, Finance, Legal, Trading and Technical teams to advance and close transactions 

  • Actively monitor Australian power market trends, regulatory developments, ancillary services markets and pricing dynamics 

  • Support business development strategies including hybrid solutions (renewables + storage + firming structures) 

 

What You Bring to the Role: 

  • +5 years of experience in energy origination, PPA structuring, energy trading or commercial roles 

  • Proven track record in leading and executing PPA transactions independently 

  • Strong experience with BESS business models, including tolling agreements, merchant exposure and optimization strategies 

  • In-depth understanding of the Australian power market (NEM), including pricing dynamics, volatility, and regulatory framework 

  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills and ability to structure complex deals 

  • Established network of market counterparties (corporates, utilities, retailers, traders, storage players) is a plus 

  • Ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously and operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment 

  • Excellent analytical and stakeholder management skills
