We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join our APAC team, part of our Legal Technical Contracts Division based in Melbourne.
By joining this role, you’ll play a vital role in our company’s effort for the provision of high quality coordinated legal advice to the business of Metlen in the APAC region as part of the MRES-ET APAC Legal Team. The role will work under supervision of the Head of Legal while progressively taking ownership of matters.
Your role will encompass:
- Provide legal advice and support to all functions across the APAC region, ensuring compliance with internal processes, procedures, and applicable legal requirements.
- Collaborate with Development, Asset Management, EPC, Finance, O&M teams, and external legal counsel to support legal due diligence, corporate governance, company secretarial matters, and legal operations.
- Ensure the drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of procurement contracts, construction subcontracts, and a wide range of commercial agreements, including confidentiality agreements and letters of intent.
- Oversee compliance with legal obligations, contract approval and execution processes, the preparation of legal activity reports, and the timely escalation of significant legal issues to the Head of Legal - APAC.
- Work with the wider regional and global legal teams to develop, maintain, and update precedent documentation, legal resources, policies, and procedures, ensuring consistent legal practices across the region.
- Provide ongoing legal knowledge management support and contribute to the continuous improvement of legal frameworks, governance standards, and operational processes throughout the APAC business.
What you bring to the role:
- Qualified lawyer with a recognized legal qualification and membership of the relevant professional body, holding a current practicing certificate in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) gained within a private practice environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in commercial contracting and corporate/commercial law.
- Ability to provide legal advice and support across a range of commercial and corporate matters.
- Experience or familiarity with construction/EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects.
- Knowledge of the renewable energy sector is desirable and would be considered an advantage.
