Metlen Energy and Metals is seeking a Senior Civil Site Engineer to join our M Renewables Division across the United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of large-scale Solar and BESS projects, overseeing complex civil construction activities and driving high standards of safety, quality, and project performance throughout the construction phase.
Your role will encompass:
- Lead and supervise all civil construction activities, including earthworks, excavations, grading, drainage, trenching, foundations, roads, and concrete works.
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, ensuring works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, programme, and quality standards.
- Review and interpret civil drawings, surveys, technical specifications, method statements, and construction schedules to ensure work readiness.
- Manage setting out verification, design tolerances, compaction requirements, levels, and dimensional control throughout construction.
- Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Lead inspections, testing, and QA/QC activities in accordance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), project requirements, and industry standards.
- Monitor subcontractor productivity, resource allocation, plant utilisation, and progress against programme, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Identify construction risks, delays, technical issues, weather impacts, and resource constraints, proactively developing mitigation plans.
- Review and approve site records, measurements, quality documentation, inspection reports, and as-built information.
- Support planning activities through look-ahead programmes and daily coordination meetings with site management and subcontractors.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE procedures, RAMS, Temporary Works requirements, excavation safety, lifting operations, and environmental standards.
- Support pre-commissioning, snagging, final inspections, and project handover activities.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Site Engineers and junior team members, promoting continuous improvement and engineering best practices.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years' experience supervising and coordinating civil construction works on large-scale infrastructure, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience leading civil works on utility-scale Solar, BESS, energy, or EPC construction projects is highly desirable.
- Strong experience managing subcontractors, site teams, and multidisciplinary construction interfaces.
- Extensive knowledge of earthworks, drainage, roads, foundations, reinforced concrete works, compaction, surveying, and testing procedures.
- Solid understanding of QA/QC processes, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and quality management systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, surveys, specifications, construction programmes, and method statements.
- Strong knowledge of Temporary Works procedures, RAMS, CDM Regulations, and UK construction safety standards.
- Excellent planning, coordination, reporting, and organisational skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
- High commitment to safety, quality, and successful project delivery.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
