We are currently looking for an experienced Lead Site Engineer to join our Metlen Renewables Division in the UK and play a key role in the successful delivery of major renewable energy projects.
As the Lead Site Engineer on site, you will be responsible for coordinating multidisciplinary construction activities, driving collaboration across teams, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Acting as the primary point of contact for the Project Manager on all site matters, you will provide leadership to site engineering teams, manage subcontractor interfaces, and maintain clear communication, effective planning, and strong operational performance throughout the construction phase.
Your role will encompass:
- Lead, coordinate, and support all site staff, including Site Engineers, Junior Engineers, Supervisors, Logistics, and QA/QC personnel.
- Act as the primary day-to-day site representative for the Project Manager, providing clear communication on progress, risks, and resource requirements.
- Organise and prioritise daily work fronts in coordination with the Construction Manager.
- Coordinate interfaces between subcontractors, METKA-EGN teams, and project management to ensure smooth site operations.
- Lead daily coordination meetings and discipline briefings.
- Develop and monitor 1–4 week look-ahead programmes across all construction disciplines.
- Coordinate work sequencing to minimise clashes and maximise productivity.
- Monitor manpower, plant, and resource availability, escalating potential issues proactively.
- Review drawings, specifications, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS), and technical documentation to ensure works are fully prepared before execution.
- Provide technical support and clarification to subcontractors while coordinating design queries with the engineering team.
- Manage interfaces between civil, mechanical, and electrical works to ensure effective project delivery.
- Lead site inspections and verify compliance with quality standards, ITP requirements, and project specifications.
- Support QA/QC activities where dedicated site QA/QC resources are not available.
- Monitor subcontractor productivity and progress against programme, identifying delays and implementing mitigation measures where required.
- Promote a strong Health, Safety & Environmental culture by ensuring compliance with RAMS, safe systems of work, and company HSE standards.
- Support toolbox talks, daily HSE coordination meetings, and incident investigations where required.
- Consolidate daily and weekly progress reports, maintaining accurate records of site activities, actions, and decisions.
- Support pre-commissioning, testing, inspections, and project handover activities, ensuring quality documentation and as-built records are complete.
- Mentor and support the development of Site Engineers and junior team members while promoting continuous improvement and lessons learned across projects.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in large-scale construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary site teams.
- Strong understanding of UK construction practices, CDM Regulations, QA/QC processes, and site management principles.
- Experience with construction planning, look-ahead scheduling, and progress reporting.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, RAMS, and construction programmes.
- Good understanding of civil, mechanical, and electrical construction interfaces.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive and forward-planning approach.
- Calm under pressure with the ability to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously.
- High commitment to safety, quality, integrity, and teamwork.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
