Job Description:

Junior Project Manager – Western Europe (BESS)

Location: United Kingdom
Division: M Renewables

About METLEN Energy & Metals

METLEN Energy & Metals is a global industrial and energy company and a leading force in the energy transition. Through our M Renewables division, we develop and deliver large-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects, contributing to a more sustainable future.

We are seeking a motivated Junior Project Manager – Western Europe (BESS) to join our growing team in the United Kingdom, supporting the development and conversion of strategic Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) EPC opportunities across Western Europe.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale standalone and hybrid energy storage projects, working closely with Senior Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, Finance and Legal. You will support the development of technical and commercial proposals, tender submissions, client engagement and contract negotiations.

The position is primarily focused on project development, business acquisition and pre-contract activities, providing valuable exposure to the commercial, technical and contractual aspects of BESS EPC projects, rather than the day-to-day management of awarded projects and construction delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project and Opportunity Coordination: Support Senior Project Managers in coordinating multiple BESS EPC opportunities across Western Europe, monitoring progress, maintaining trackers and action logs, and ensuring deliverables are completed within agreed timescales.

  • Tender Management: Assist in preparing and coordinating tender submissions, gathering technical, commercial and contractual inputs, managing documentation and ensuring submission requirements are met.

  • Technical and Commercial Development: Coordinate inputs from Engineering, Procurement, Commercial, Finance and Legal teams to support the development of competitive and technically viable BESS proposals.

  • Technical Solution Coordination: Support the evaluation of preliminary designs, technical specifications, system configurations, battery technologies, major equipment options and engineering assumptions for energy storage projects.

  • Supplier and Procurement Support: Assist with requests for quotations (RFQs), supplier and OEM engagement, quotation comparisons and the evaluation of equipment and subcontractor proposals.

  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Support client communications, participate in meetings and workshops, and prepare presentations, reports and project documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Risk and Governance: Maintain risk registers, action logs and controlled documentation, supporting internal approval processes, technical and commercial risk assessments, and compliance with company procedures.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to lessons learned, knowledge sharing and the improvement of tendering and opportunity management processes.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.

  • A Master’s degree or additional studies in renewable energy, energy storage, engineering or project management would be advantageous.

Experience and Technical Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience in project management, engineering, construction, procurement or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and EPC project development.

  • Familiarity with project lifecycles, tendering processes and multidisciplinary project environments.

  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to interpret technical documentation and drawings.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

  • Familiarity with MS Project or Primavera would be an advantage.

  • Previous experience within a BESS developer, EPC contractor, energy storage OEM, engineering consultancy or construction environment is desirable. Relevant graduate or internship experience will also be considered.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Analytical, proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across different countries.

  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability and willingness to learn.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel occasionally across Western Europe.

  • Valid driving licence.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to contribute to large-scale BESS projects across Western Europe.

  • Exposure to the full pre-contract lifecycle, from early-stage opportunity development through tendering, negotiations and contract award.

  • Collaboration with experienced professionals across engineering, commercial, procurement and project delivery functions.

  • A dynamic, international working environment offering opportunities for professional development and career progression.
