Job Description: 

METLEN Energy & Metals is seeking an HSE Supervisor to support our Renewables Division across Germany. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects while ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental performance.

 

Working closely with the HSE Manager, Construction Managers, Project Managers, and Site Engineers, the HSE Supervisor will oversee day-to-day site safety activities, monitor compliance with German legislation and company procedures, and promote a proactive safety culture across all construction operations.

 

The role also supports subcontractors in implementing safe working practices and ensures compliance with project-specific HSE requirements.

 

 

Your role will encompass:

 

  • Support the HSE Manager in implementing and maintaining project Health, Safety and Environmental management systems.
  • Supervise daily site activities to ensure compliance with German HSE legislation, company procedures, and project requirements.
  • Monitor subcontractor activities to verify that Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements are effectively implemented.
  • Carry out routine HSE inspections, audits, and workplace observations, ensuring timely close-out of corrective actions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and visible leadership on site.
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings to employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings with construction teams and subcontractors to address HSE matters.
  • Assist with accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and supporting corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor permit-to-work activities and verify compliance with excavation, lifting, electrical, and high-risk work procedures.
  • Review and support Risk Assessments (Gefährdungsbeurteilungen), Method Statements, and emergency response arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, training records, and project documentation.
  • Monitor environmental controls including waste management, pollution prevention, housekeeping, and environmental compliance.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and first aid arrangements.
  • Report HSE performance, observations, and statistics to the HSE Manager.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across all project HSE activities.

 

 

What you bring to the role:

 

  • Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of HSE experience within construction, infrastructure, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
  • Experience supervising HSE activities on active construction sites.
  • Good knowledge of German occupational health and safety legislation, including the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (ArbSchG)DGUV Regulations, and construction site safety requirements.
  • Experience supporting subcontractor HSE compliance and site inspections.
  • Understanding of permit-to-work systems, RAMS, incident reporting, and risk assessment processes.
  • NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate or equivalent HSE qualification is considered an advantage.
  • Internal Auditor qualification for ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 is desirable.
  • First Aid qualification is desirable.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel across project sites in Germany.
  • Fluent German and good English communication skills are required.
