As a Senior Project Cost Controller at Metlen you will be a key member of the project team, supporting the financial control and performance of large-scale construction projects. This position will be based in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom.
Your role will encompass:
- Lead the development, monitoring, and control of project budgets, ensuring alignment with approved financial targets.
- Track and analyze project costs against budget, identifying variances and providing timely insights to support decision-making.
- Prepare and deliver detailed cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow analyses to Project Management and senior stakeholders.
- Manage Work in Progress (WIP) reporting and ensure accurate application of revenue recognition principles (percentage-of-completion).
- Support project teams in budget planning, cost estimation, and financial forecasting activities.
- Identify financial risks related to cost overruns, delays, or deviations and propose mitigation actions.
- Ensure alignment between project schedules and financial planning to support overall project performance.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Procurement, and Project Management teams to ensure cost efficiency and financial transparency.
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring proper cost allocation and timely financial flows.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost control processes, tools, and reporting frameworks.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 5–7 years of professional experience in cost control, finance, or accounting, ideally within construction or large-scale project environments.
- Strong knowledge of construction cost control, job costing, and financial reporting practices.
- Hands-on experience with revenue recognition principles (percentage-of-completion) and WIP reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g. SAP or equivalent) and advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
- Professional certifications such as ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced project environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to travel.
