Job Description: 

We are currently looking for a Project Development Manager to join our Metlen team in Canada.

 

As part of METLEN’s North American Development team, you will play a key role in advancing utility-scale Solar PV, BESS and other renewable energy projects across Canada. Working closely with the Country Manager and senior development leadership, you will be responsible for driving projects throughout the development lifecycle, from origination and site control through permitting, interconnection, stakeholder engagement and readiness for construction.

 

The successful candidate will combine strong project development expertise, commercial awareness and stakeholder management capabilities to support the continued growth of METLEN’s renewable energy platform in one of its priority markets.

 

 

 

YOUR ROLE WILL ENCOMPASS:

 

 

• Leading utility-scale Solar PV, BESS and renewable energy projects throughout the development lifecycle across Canada.

• Driving project advancement from origination and site control through permitting, interconnection, stakeholder engagement and readiness for construction.

• Managing relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, municipalities, utilities, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders.

• Coordinating environmental, permitting, interconnection and technical workstreams to ensure timely project progression.

• Supporting the identification, assessment and execution of greenfield, co-development and acquisition opportunities.

• Conducting project due diligence and supporting investment decisions through commercial, technical and regulatory assessments.

• Managing external consultants, development partners and advisors, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.

• Collaborating closely with Engineering, EPC, Legal, Finance, PPA & Origination, Project Finance and Asset Management teams throughout the project lifecycle.

• Identifying project risks, developing mitigation strategies and implementing corrective actions where required.

• Preparing development updates, project presentations, investment recommendations and supporting senior management decision-making processes.

• Monitoring market developments, regulatory changes and competitive activity within the Canadian renewable energy sector and identifying opportunities for portfolio growth.

• Supporting project handovers from Development to EPC and Construction teams, ensuring continuity and effective stakeholder alignment.

 

 

 

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

 

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Business, Economics or a related discipline. A Master's Degree or MBA would be considered an asset.

• Minimum 5–8 years of experience within renewable energy project development, infrastructure development, utilities or a related sector.

• Demonstrated experience advancing utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, Wind or other energy infrastructure projects through key development milestones.

• Strong understanding of Canadian permitting, interconnection, environmental and stakeholder engagement processes.

• Experience managing multiple development projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Proven ability to manage relationships with utilities, regulators, government authorities, consultants, landowners and Indigenous communities.

• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to identify, evaluate and mitigate development risks.

• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating internal and external stakeholders.

• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Self-starter mentality with a strong execution mindset and the ability to operate with a high degree of ownership.

• Fluent English is required. French would be considered an asset.
