We are seeking a Business Development Manager to support the expansion of METLEN’s renewable energy portfolio across Canada and the U.S. Working under the direction of the Head of Development, the Business Development Manager will lead acquisition and greenfield development opportunities, support transaction execution and due diligence activities, develop investment and partnership strategies, and coordinate cross-functional teams through the evaluation, financing, and development lifecycle of renewable energy projects across North America.
This role requires a commercially driven professional who can combine strategic thinking, financial and market analysis, relationship management, and negotiation skills in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities while building strong relationships with developers, advisors, financial institutions, landowners, and key stakeholders to advance opportunities from origination through execution.
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in identifying and advancing renewable energy investments, supporting project optimization and strategic growth initiatives, and representing METLEN with professionalism, collaboration, and integrity across the North American market.
This Role Will Encompass
- Originate acquisition opportunities in North American markets by developing and cultivating relationships with bankers, advisors, developers, and key stakeholders and inform Head of Development of new opportunities, market insights and trends
- Lead transaction processes from origination through completion, ensuring smooth handoff to Development Team: bid submissions, deal structuring, financial modeling, due-diligence, Q&A, negotiating and structuring, development, financing and executing investments. Active coordinatoin with internal teams
- Support project lifecycle through development, construction, and operations including international coordination (O&M, Project Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Tax, EPC, etc) as required: project financing, partnerships, gov relations, offtake, project optimization, handoffs, internal reporting.
- Support the Head of PPA and Energy Origination by providing PPA pricing under different structures.
- Prepare pitch books / investment memoranda and presenting the transaction’s investment thesis/rationale to the Head of Development and the Regional Managing Director – North America and Metlen's internal investment and risk committees. Ensuring clear communication of risks, opportunties and strategic alignment
What you Bring to the Role
- Bachelors Degree in Finance / Economics / Business or related fields. MBA or master’s degree in a numerate discipline would be a plus
- Track record of leading the origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of utility-scale renewable energy acquisitions and/or similar energy investments in the North America market
- Deep knowledge of financial modeling for renewable projects and M&A structuring
- Experience managing acquisition due diligence processes and interfacing activities with internal SMEs (EPC, legal, tax, finance, project finance, etc)
- Track record in developing “greenfield” and “brownfield” renewable energy (preferably solar PV) projects
- Ability to maintain discipline and focus on development and acquisition strategies; filter and pursue only value accretive opportunities.
- Knowledge of North American energy markets (preference for Canada)
- Understanding of utility-scale project development lifecycle including interconnection, permitting, environmental studies, engineering, regulations, and offtake contracting
- Ability to identify, quantify, and mitigate risks, communicating recommendations to their supervisor
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Extensive personal network in the Canada and/or North America region renewable energy markets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The successful candidate must be a self starter with a proven track record of working both autonomously and as leader and part of a team
- Diligent, execution-focused, ability to “think outside the box”, proactive and able to take on deal responsibility, team-player, and results-oriented
- Business-oriented and with a passion for renewable energy
- Motivated & self-starter. Self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.
- Fluent in English. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is a plus
- Minimum of 5 years in the power generation business (preferably renewables) in an acquisitions/investments role
- Working experience in Canada and/or US markets is preferred
- Working in a multinational environment, supporting and/or leading teams, and comfortable and experienced in coordinating with colleagues on a global level and different time zones
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment
